Cypress




Phallic symbol, as well as the emblem of death and funeral. It was assumed that cypress can keep the body from decay, hence its use in cemeteries. Crowned by the Sun or Moon, it personifies androgina.

In Chinese means grace, happiness, but also death.

In Christianity, a symbol of endurance (hence its Christian symbolism of the tenacity and valor), a just man, mourning and death.

In Greco-Roman tradition served as the emblem of Zeus, Apollo, Venus and Hermes, and means life. As an attribute of gods and fate of the underground world, it means death. Dedicated to Hades (Pluto).
